## How to read the index

Companies are listed in a curated editorial order, starting with Surge AI, Mercor, DataVendor, HUD, and Turing. Placement reflects our editorial assessment of relevance to this directory; it is not a measured market-share or quality ranking. Categories and capability tags are editorial classifications based on public company materials. A company can appear in multiple categories. The index covers environment labs, research teams, training infrastructure, expert data providers, licensing marketplaces, and data buyers. It is not exhaustive, and inclusion is not an endorsement.

## Data buyers

Data buyers are companies with publicly documented data acquisition, licensing, or commissioned-data partnerships for AI. Profiles distinguish model training from grounding (using content to inform an answer at runtime) and link to the evidence for inclusion. A documented partnership does not mean a company is currently accepting unsolicited datasets or offering standard purchase terms. Public submission routes are linked where available.

## Sources & review dates

Every company page links to its sources and records when its information was reviewed. Descriptions summarize public offerings; they are not independent performance assessments. Announced acquisitions are noted on the affected profiles.

Company logos come from public company websites, asset hosts, and favicon caches.
