Why that distinction matters

Our assessment is that an enterprise simulation becomes useful only when it can be run consistently enough to support comparison. In an illustrative project-management task, one agent may encounter a cooperative colleague while another encounters conflicting requests. Both scenarios can be valuable, but they should be labeled and controlled rather than mixed into an unexplained score.

The same applies to software and data versions. If the environment changes during an experiment, a performance difference may reflect the setting rather than an improved model. Operational discipline is therefore part of evaluation quality, not just a convenience for researchers.

Evaluating fit

A prospective customer should ask for a task package with its initial state, tools, simulated participants, and scoring criteria. Examine how scenario variation is generated and whether a run can be reproduced. Establish which verifiers check objective state and which rely on judgment. For training, reserve unfamiliar scenarios to test transfer and inspect whether the agent discovers shortcuts in the scoring. Commercial scoping should distinguish environment authoring, ongoing hosting, data delivery, and maintenance, since each can carry a different cost and responsibility.
