Runloop

Coding sandboxes, benchmarks, and infrastructure for agent training.

Overview

Runloop provides coding sandboxes, evaluation tools, and infrastructure for agent development. Its platform overview centers on Devboxes: execution environments in which agents can work with repositories, run commands, and produce software artifacts. The company combines that runtime layer with benchmarking and training workflows.

Published features include repository connections, reusable templates, state snapshots and branches, and observability. Runloop describes support for public coding benchmarks as well as custom scenarios derived from a customer's own work. This gives it a role in both executing agent tasks and organizing the tests used to assess them.

The platform's performance and scale claims are company-reported and should be tested under realistic conditions. Access to hosted benchmarks does not by itself establish that those benchmarks match a buyer's workload or are appropriate as training material.

How execution and evaluation connect

Our assessment is that keeping task state close to the evaluation process can make agent development easier to diagnose. In an illustrative repository task, a failed result may come from the model's patch, a missing dependency, or an unreliable environment setup. Logs and reproducible workspace state help separate those causes.

Custom evaluations can also turn recurring production failures into regression tests. The challenge is selecting scenarios that remain representative instead of repeatedly optimizing against a small visible set. Infrastructure reliability and task validity both matter to the resulting score.

Evaluating fit

Run a complete workflow from repository setup through agent execution, grading, and artifact retrieval. Test failures as deliberately as successful runs, including timeouts and dependency problems. Measure total time to a usable environment and cost per completed evaluation, not only command latency. Ask how benchmark versions and custom task definitions are preserved. For training, keep independent evaluation cases and inspect whether scoring can be satisfied through shortcuts. Clarify what Runloop hosts, what the buyer authors, and who maintains each component. A pilot should show that the platform makes experiments more reproducible and informative while supporting the scale the team actually needs. Published benchmark access is a useful starting point, but representative custom tasks remain essential for application-specific decisions.
